Ethanol decline’s latest casualty: Rahal-Letterman racing team

Auto Blog: Ethanol , Racing During the keynote session of the Alternative Fuel and Vehicle Institute conference last May, Bobby Rahal, head of Rahal Letterman Racing , gave a talk that described his role (click and scroll down a bit) in helping the Indy Racing League move to using 100 percent ethanol fuel. In short, Rahal was fully behind the move to the biofuel. Turns out, ethanol isn’t fully behind Rahal. Reports came out late last week that the Ethanol Promotion and Information Council (EPIC, which is now apparently Growth Energy – more on that in a bit) will not sponsor the Rahal-Letterman Racing team for the 2009 season, potentially leaving the team out of the IRL entirely this year . Rahal is still hoping to find someone to pick up the pricey tab, though. How much does it cost? About six million dollars. That’s six million the ethanol industry apparently doesn’t have.
