Is Nissan killing its electric car?

Auto Blog: EV/Plug-in , Nissan , USA With the economic outlook for most automakers ranking somewhere between a disaster and a catastrophe, serious decisions about money-saving cuts have to be made. In the case of Nissan , it has been decided that its midterm business plan (nice to know they actually have one) that covers the firm’s activities from 2008 to 2012 is being suspended. Does that translate into postponing their much ballyhooed future electric cars ? According to one website it does. GreenCarWebsite is saying that the automaker will suspend its electric vehicle plans as a part of the cost-cutting actions. Are they right? Maybe not. Reading through a description of the cuts from the Nissan press release, it states that “…commitments on quality and zero-emission vehicles will be retained.” Since their only other zero-emission vehicle is still a relatively nascent hydrogen fuel cell SUV , we strongly suspect the Japanese company will still try to deliver an all-electric car to the American market by 2010.
