Want to hear something else? You can also turn it into ethanol. No, seriously. That’s what the Sierra Nevada Brewing Company and E-Fuel will do following today’s announcement of a new agreement between the two companies to use discarded beer yeast to make high-grade ethanol. E-Fuel will install some of its MicroFueler portable ethanol micro-refineries at a Sierra Nevada brewery in Chico, California. Sierra Nevada will then make its own ethanol right at the plant starting with tests in the second quarter of 2009. Full-scale production should be a reality later in the year. Details available after the jump, but the important part is that the stuff that used to go to local farms to feed their livestock will now be used to fuel Sierra Nevada vehicles.
