Yes, she did it again: Daryl Hannah shows off her new biodiesel El Camino

Auto Blog: Biodiesel , Green Daily Click above and scroll down to watch the video If you love something, do it again. After Daryl Hannah sold her first biodiesel El Camino for $15,600 a year ago, she said she would convert the Trans Am she drove in “Kill Bill” to electric power . That never happened, and at the recently-concluded National Biodiesel Conference & Expo, Hannah showed off her new ride: another biodiesel El Camino. Hannah says that her new ride (same as the old ride) only drinks sustainable biodiesel. This makes sense for many reasons, including that she is a big supporter of the Sustainable Biodiesel Alliance and that new sustainable biodiesel standards were announced at the Expo. You can see Hannah show off her car as part of the Expo’s Biodiesel Vehicle Showcase in a video after the jump, but be warned that the audio is less than pleasing. Biodiesel board announces sustainability principles

Auto Blog: Biodiesel , USA The National Biodiesel Board has completed it’s annual conference meeting in San Francisco and one of the larger announcements are new rules for sustainable biodiesel. A Sustainability Task Force met during the event and developed and passed the principles that demonstrate their claimed commitments to climate change mitigation, human rights, food security, and respect for natural resources. Much different than soy-sourced biodiesel, sustainable biodiesel needs to meet the following long list of principles : it’s made legally, it’s manufactured under transparent processes, it really reduces global greenhouse gas emissions, it protects human rights, it’s manufactured to promote local communities, it helps food security, it promotes sustainable management systems, it respects water and and land rights, and that all these conditions are subject to improvement. The EU has been struggling to find an equivalent legislation that would also apply to imported biofuels. VIDEO: What’s it like to drive the prototype of the world’s fastest production motorcycle?

Auto Blog: EV/Plug-in , On Two Wheels , USA Click above for high-res image gallery of the electric Mission One sport bike If you’re like some of us here at AutoblogGreen, a few minutes after reading all about the new Mission One , the world’s fastest production electric motorcycle , you were daydreaming about sitting in its saddle waiting for the light to change from red. In the next lane, some guy on a Suzuki Hayabusa was revving his engine like crazy, preparing to let out his clutch. Perhaps you imagined giving the guy a nod of the helmet and an easy smile knowing the silence of your steed and your relaxed attitude was intimidating in its own way. What might really happen when the light turns green? The Hayabusa is famously fast and can produce around the same amount of torque as the electric newcomer. However, as Mission Motors CEO, Forrest Deuth, reminded us when we spoke the other day, the gas-powered bike produces its torque at thousands of RPMs, while the Mission One has it waiting for you from the get go. The result, we’re told, is a very controllable launch, followed by extremely quick acceleration, undisturbed by the shifting of gears. Compare that to the uncertainty of dropping a clutch on a screaming traditional sport bike. Of course, no one has yet ridden the bike that was unveiled yesterday, so can this reverie be believed? Hit the jump for our answer and video testimonials. German auto club gets HydroGen4 from GM for roadside assistance

Auto Blog: Hydrogen , GM , Germany One of General Motors’ HydroGen4 (aka fuel cell Equinox) vehicles is now prowling the streets in Berlin and Brandenberg, Germany offering up roadside assistance. The German auto club ADAC is operating one of the fuel cell-powered crossovers as part of GM’s Project Driveway. Just as AAA crews do here in the U.S., ADAC (the “Yellow Angels”) come to the rescue of motorists with flat tires, empty fuel tanks or otherwise inoperative vehicles. This will be a particularly demanding assignment for the fuel cell vehicle since it will be operating most of the day, every day. Unlike most of the other Equinoxes being driven by ordinary people in daily use, the ADAC car is equipped with telemetry equipment to transmit data back to the Opel engineers overseeing the European segment of the program. Following ADAC, several other corporate partners are also getting these vehicles for testing.
