New Ford Fiesta SportVan on sale in UK; diesel gets 56 mpg
Click above for a high res gallery of Ford Fiesta SportVan Sleeker and smaller than a Transit Connect but also serving as a fuel-saving delivery vehicle that can carry up to 515 kg (1,135 lbs) worth of stuff, the new Ford Fiesta SportVan is now on sale in the UK. With a diesel powerplant that gives off CO 2 emissions of just 110 g/km, the SportVan will cost you £10,780. The new diesel SportVan also, well, sports 56 mpg (U.S.) on the combined cycle. Opt for the petrol versions and you’ll get 41 mpg (U.S.) and 133 g/kkm of CO 2 , starting at £9,025. What’s different about the SportVan from the standard Fiesta? As you can see in the image above and in the gallery below, the rear side windows are swapped out for solid panels that match the body color. Rear seats are similarly made more functional by removing them, turning the back into a 1,000 cubic liter cargo space with a standard half-height composite bulkhead and DIN-compliant tie-down hooks. If you are a so-called “millennial” (born between 1979 and 1995), you’re a prime target for the ” Fiesta Movement .” Fiestas for the North American market start production around the end of this year in Mexico, but 100 cars were built this week in Cologne Germany and shipped to the U.S. to get the movement going. They don’t want just anyone though, they are specifically looking for those that can spCar Blog Greenthe news via social networks. Those who want to be “agents” for Ford will have to start by creating a video explaining why they should be part of the Fiesta Movement and putting it on YouTube. The 100 agents who get selected will be given monthly “missions” that will be documented on places like Facebook, MySpace and other social networks. Click above for a high-res gallery of the Ford Fiesta What Car?’s Car of the Year , the new Ford Fiesta, was sitting at the Ford booth at the Chicago Auto Show sporting a fresh look. All tricked out to promote the Fiesta Movement , the Fiesta was looking pretty good – and very green. Lime green, that is. The Fiesta Movement is Ford’s plan to give 100 people a chance to drive one of these small cars – for free , if you’re willing to participate in the “secret assignments” – for six months. While we’ve seen the Fiesta, in various guises, for what seems like ages at auto shows, we still need to wait a while until the car actually goes on sale in North America in early 2010. Auto Blog: MPG , Ford After hinting at on the teaser site that was launched for the Ford Fiesta a couple of months ago, the Dearborn automaker has confirmed that it will launch the PowerShift dual clutch gearbox for 2010. This will be the first North American market application of the technology for Ford. The 6-speed unit will is a dry clutch setup that will go into the Fiesta first when it launches at the end of this year. Ford’s first DCT application in Europe is a wet-clutch setup on the diesel Focus. Compared to existing four speed automatics, the PowerShift will yield a 9 percent improvement in fuel efficiency as well as facilitating extra features. During coast down, both clutches are automatically disengaged reducing drag. The control of the clutches is also integrated with the brake system to provide hill-hold and launch assist. The dry-clutch PowerShift is 30 lbs lighter than the existing four speed automatic on the US Focus. This gearbox already appeared in the Lincoln Concept C and Volvo S60 concepts in Detroit last week and will make its way into other smaller Fords in the next couple of years.
