Chicago 2009: Ford Fusion Hybrid Pace Car
Click above for a gallery of the Ford Fusion Hybrid Pace Car Last November, a hybrid vehicle paced a NASCAR Sprint Cup event for the first time ever. That car was a 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid , and the race was the last of the season at Homestead-Miami Speedway. We managed to locate the exact car that was used as the pace car up until the green flag dropped here on the show floor in Chicago. Under the skin, this car is exactly the same as any other 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid. That skin, though, makes this particular hybrid stand out from the crowd. Ford had a pretty good day at that race last year, as it was won by Carl Edwards in a NASCAR-spec Ford Fusion race car. Sure, the two vehicles share absolutely zero components besides the badge on the grille, but we’re sure Ford was happy to have its new Fusion sedan bookend the event. 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid qualifies for $3,400 tax credit
Auto Blog: Hybrid , Ford , Legislation and Policy , Green Daily , USA Click above for high-res gallery of the 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid Good news for those looking to get into a new fuel efficient midsize sedan: Ford’s 2010 Fusion Hybrid has been tested by the EPA and its 41 mpg city and 36 highway entitle it to the maximum $3,400 tax credit allowed for hybrid vehicles by the federal government. The current set of tax credits are calculated based on the fuel efficiency improvement of a particular model versus what it and its competitors achieve with their non-hybridized powertrains. In standard four cylinder guise, the Fusion still manages a very respectable 23 city and 34 highway, again proving that hybrids make their largest efficiency improvements in city driving conditions. If you want to benefit from the full tax credit, we’d advise you to act quickly. As buyers of Toyota and Honda hybrids have already found out, once an automaker has sold 60,000 hybrid units, the tax credit is slowly phased out. Ford reached its total allotment late last year, so you’ve got until the end of March before the credit is halved. Toyota versus Ford – arguing about mileage of their midsize cars
Auto Blog: Hybrid , MPG , Ford , Toyota Click above for high-res gallery of the 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid When Ford announced the fuel mileage statistics of its new 2010 Fusion Hybrid, the Blue Oval made a big deal about its fuel mileage ratings, which, at 41 mpg city and 36 highway , bests the Toyota Camry Hybrid. Toyota kindly retorted that its Camry is bigger than Ford’s Fusion. We wonder if that’s supposed to be a good thing. The Prius is also considered a midsize car based on its interior volume, so, depending on your point of view, both the Camry and the Prius could be considered logical competition for Ford’s latest hybrid sedan. For what it’s worth, the Prius, Camry and Fusion all have an interior volume of around 100 cubic feet, give or take a foot. Splitting hairs? Most definitely. We would hazard a guess that most people cross shop the Fusion Hybrid with the Camry Hybrid, being that they are normal-looking sedans from the outside, putting the Prius on a higher green pedestal anyway. We agree with Toyota’s official blog response that all this doesn’t really matter, just so long as each manufacturer is putting its best foot forward when engineering its new cars and trucks to get the best fuel mileage possible. In this case, this is exactly what appears to be happening. Extreme Makeover family gets free 2010 Ford Fusion hybrid
Auto Blog: Etc. , Hybrid , Ford , USA If you were watching “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” yesterday (and who wasn’t?) then you were witness to some extreme generosity on the part of the Ford Motor Company who gave the featured family a brand new 2010 Fusion hybrid to go with their freshly refurbished house. The automaker’s magnanimity didn’t end there either. Unlike the years supply of gasoline your father’s Ford Company might have given to go along with the car, the Ford of today chose instead to throw in a set of solar panels. Of course, the company doesn’t make a vehicle that runs on electricity yet but, hey, it’s the thought that counts. The gesture makes the Drumm family one of the first in America to drive the Fusion hybrid as it will only arrive in showrooms in the Spring. Its EPA-rated 41 mpg in the city ( we got 43.1! ) is probably more than twice that of the hand-me-down van they had been driving. Such a good deed deserves a press release and we have that for you after the break. First Coulomb ChargePoint stations now available in San Jose, CA
Filed under: EV/Plug-in Coulomb Technologies has launched its first public EV charging stations on its ChargePoint network this week in downtown San Jose CA. The Smartlets, which were announced last summer at the Plug-In 2008 conference, use a subscription service to allow drivers to park and charge their vehicles. When a driver signs up for the service (currently free after a $9.95 processing fee) they receive a smart card.
