Design and engineering complete on Gordon Murray’s T25 city car
According to a report on Autocar , Gordon Murray has received interest from over a dozen international companies that are interested in setting up franchises to sell the innovative T25 city car . Interestingly, very few of the interested parties are actual established automakers. That’s a good thing according to Murray, who says, “Our theories and processes are ideal for investors with a clean slate who are getting into cars for the first time.” Design and engineering work on the T25 is apparently now finished. Selected companies will create iStream factories that are set up to assemble the little cars and are supposed to be one-fifth the size of conventional auto factories. The same basic platform, complete with a gas-powered three-cylinder powerplant driving the rear wheels, will be able to accommodate such diverse vehicles as a passenger car, a pickup truck and an MPV. 2009 Jetta TDI Cup to run on B5 biodiesel
Click the Jettas for a high res gallery from VIRginia International Raceway Volkswagen’s Jetta TDI Cup series will be returning to the racetracks of North America at the end of April with 30 diesel-powered sedans in the hands of young up and coming drivers. For this year’s sophomore season Volkswagen will be filling the tanks of the Jettas with B5 biodiesel. Houston, Texas-based Hyperfuels will be supplying the 5 percent biofuel blend for the cars which will consume about two tankfuls of fuel over the course of 10 races. The Syndiesel supplied by Hyperfuels has a 10 year shelf life addressing one of the biggest issues with some biodiesels, the tendency to go rancid after a period of time in storage. Volkswagen has approved B5 for use in all regular production diesel VW and Audi models. Just as it did last year, the Jetta TDI cup kicks off at VIRginia International Raceway April 24-26. Gordon Murray’s new T.25 illustrated with slew of little toys
Click above for a gallery of pint-sized T.25 toys According to Gordon Murray, the upcoming city car that his design firm has been working on will be half the size of an average car while maintaining at least a 4-star safety rating in Euro NCAP testing. How small is that? Two T.25′s will fit in a single lane while driving and 3 will fit in a standard-sized parallel parking spot. Really small. Murray also promises that there will be 6 different layouts for his little multi-purpose vehicle, all of which will share the same basic underpinnings. That small size has plenty of desirable effects, such as cutting carbon emissions and fuel consumption in half and cutting the amount of raw materials necessary for its construction in half. Further, much less energy will be required to assemble the vehicle or ship it to its final destination. Where possible, recycled components will be used. It may be hard to imagine the impact that the vehicle’s size and construction will have, so the hopeful automaker has released a bunch of images demonstrating the superiority of the T.25′s design… using little toys. The T.25 will also be adept at avoiding giant snakes , apparently. See our gallery below. Gordon Murray trademarks names iStream, iFrame and iCentre
Auto Blog: Green Daily , Lightweight , UK Thanks to some digging through the UK Intellectual Property Office, GreenMotor has uncovered what may be the name for Gordon Murray’s upcoming city car. Up until now, we’ve known the city car as Type 25 or T.25, which was so named because it is Murray’s 25th design, but it now seems possible that it will be known as the iStream when it actually goes on sale in a few years. The other two names trademarked by Murray are iFrame and iCentre, and we’re not exactly sure how they relate to the T.25, or if they do at all. There is some speculation that iCentre could refer to specific service stations for the car. We also wonder if iFrame could possibly be the name for the microcar’s innovative flat-packable architecture. On a final note, are you as ready for the iTrend and eTrend naming schemes to end as we are?
