Geneva 2009: Euro-spec Tata Nano (it’s bigger!) and all-electric Indica
Click on image to see the three upcoming Tata Euro-spec models As we reported, Tata has an Euro-spec Nano on the works . The changes from the Indian version include adding an all-aluminium I3 MPFI engine with a 5-speed automatic transmission and electric power steering. The engine should address all the concerns about Tata’s green credentials, as it will be Euro V compliant and have emissions under the 100 g/km of CO 2 mark. The Nano Europa will also include significant security equipment like ABS, ESP (Electronic Stability Program) and airbags. There’s also a change in size, as the Nano Europa has a slightly longer wheelbase of 2.28 meters. Tata’s all-electric Indica, which was also shown during the SIAM Expo , uses polymer lithium batteries that are expected to offer a range of 200 km (120 mi) and a 0-to-60 km/h (0 to 40 mph) time of less than 10 seconds. The model was adapted by Miljo Grenland/Innovasjon of Norway, where Tata UK’s owns 70 percent of the shares. Tata will also include a third model, called Prima, in its future European lineup. Tata Indica Vista to get electric drivetrain from TM4
Auto Blog: EV/Plug-in , European Union , Tata The all-electric Indica Vista by Tata Motors has taken a large step forward with the naming of TM4 as its supplier of motors, controllers and power electronics. TM4 is a subsidiary of Hydro-Quebec and joins battery supplier Electrovaya as the second Canadian company involved with the project. Miljø Innovasjon, the Tata subsidiary charged with overseeing the demonstration program, will produce over 100 of the vehicles beginning this year. The motor being used is part of the innovative TM4 MΦTIVE TM series. The MΦ 120 version, thought to be used in the vehicle, weighs only 57 lbs but can put out 160 horsepower with 125 lb ft of torque. In the Indica Vista it should be limited to 80 ponies though. When the car appeared at the Bologna Motor Show it was claimed to have a 0 to 60 time of about 10 seconds and a 120-mile range. Hopefully more firm numbers will come out as the program progresses. Hit the jump for the press release. Mazda3 to get stop/start and DSG to reduce fuel consumption
Auto Blog: Emerging Technologies , Mazda , European Union , Japan , UK Click for high-res photos of the 2010 Mazda3 Two of the most promising green technologies that are currently infiltrating the automotive market are so-called stop/start systems and DSG transmissions. We’re happy to report that the new Mazda3 is slated to get both of these eco-friendly features, with Mazda’s proprietary Smart Idle stop/start coming before the end of 2009 on both the 1.6L and the 2.0L gasoline-fed four cylinder engines. That technology isn’t planned to make an appearance in the European diesel models with their high-tech catalytic converters . Mazda also says that it’s planning to introduce dual-clutch gearbox technology in the 3, its most popular model. We’re not yet sure what powerplants will be mated to the slick-shifting new transmission, or whether DSG will be paired with stop/start for the ultimate in affordable, current fuel-saving technology. Another unanswered question is if either of these bits will migrate from Europe and Japan to the United States, though we can certainly hope Gallery: 2010 Mazda3 [Source: Autocar ] Mazda3 to get stop/start and DSG to reduce fuel consumption originally appeared on AutoblogGreen on Fri, 23 Jan 2009 16:32:00 EST.
