Ecotality , an electric transportation and storage company, has been big-timing it lately with the likes of Nissan . Together with the Pima Association of Governments ( PAG ), they have formed an EV Micro-Climate Working Group with a goal of making Pima County , which encompasses Tucson, Arizona, the charging-infrastructured home of many electric vehicles. When Nissan launches its electric car in 2010, they will make sure to have some of their battery-operated lovelies available for public and private fleets in the region while Ecotality is to help with the planning and installation of the charging stations. Although the project is being implemented to support the vehicles from Nissan, the public stations will meet charge system standards and be equipped with the J1772 connector that the Society of Engineers (SAE) has been working on . This should be the same plug other future electric cars will be equipped with. For older, pre-J1772 electric vehicles, we imagine adapters will be necessary. Full press release after the break.
Click above for a high-res gallery of the Morgan LifeCar One of last year's most interesting vehicles that debuted at the Geneva Motor Show was the Morgan LifeCar concept . Using a hydrogen fuel cell that sent a constant flow of electrons to a set of electric motors, this machine represented a radical departure for Morgan, a company that's generally most comfortable refining tried-and-true production methods. Although the LifeCar concept didn't make it to this year's show in Switzerland, evo reports that the British automaker is still working on the project, and it's seen plenty of changes over the last year. Morgan reportedly plans to launch a production machine using the lightweight aluminum architecture pioneered on the LifeCar within the next few years. In place of the hydrogen fuel cell, the new model will use a small internal combustion engine to power a set of ultracapacitors that send power to an electric motor at each wheel. Instead of relying on electricity from the grid, this serial hybrid would sport an engine specifically optimized for efficiency over a narrow range of operation, minimizing fuel usage. If and when a hydrogen infrastructure ever exists, the platform can be adapted back in that direction.
Auto Blog: EV/Plug-in , Jaguar , Europe/EU , Racing Last September, we mentioned an event that is scheduled to take place in Copenhagen, Denmark this August called the CO 2 E - Race . At the time, we weren't too sure what the race would involve, but many questions have since been answered. For instance, the course has been designed to look like the letters CO, and the O will be circled twice - clever - when viewed from space (or Google Maps, if that's easier for you). We also know that only vehicles with zero carbon emissions are allowed to participate, and at least one such machine has been entered that's based on a production Jaguar XF sedan. Danish physicist and CEO of Cleantech Motors Jesper Boie Rasmussen is leading the Project Green Light team, which has created an eco-friendly vehicle from the formerly diesel-powered Jag using lithium ion batteries for energy storage and an electric motor for propulsion. To commemorate the upcoming race, the Jaguar will make a preliminary run through Copenhagen on the same CO path that the race will use, after which the GPS coordinates of the event will be used to create a serigraph print that will be sold at auction. Thanks for the tip, Jacob ! [Source: Project Green Light ] Electric Jaguar XF to paint Copenhagen green originally appeared on AutoblogGreen on Thu, 29 Jan 2009 09:36:00 EST.
