Click above for a high-res gallery of the Morgan LifeCar One of last year’s most interesting vehicles that debuted at the Geneva Motor Show was the Morgan LifeCar concept . Using a hydrogen fuel cell that sent a constant flow of electrons to a set of electric motors, this machine represented a radical departure for Morgan, a company that’s generally most comfortable refining tried-and-true production methods. Although the LifeCar concept didn’t make it to this year’s show in Switzerland, evo reports that the British automaker is still working on the project, and it’s seen plenty of changes over the last year. Morgan reportedly plans to launch a production machine using the lightweight aluminum architecture pioneered on the LifeCar within the next few years. In place of the hydrogen fuel cell, the new model will use a small internal combustion engine to power a set of ultracapacitors that send power to an electric motor at each wheel. Instead of relying on electricity from the grid, this serial hybrid would sport an engine specifically optimized for efficiency over a narrow range of operation, minimizing fuel usage. If and when a hydrogen infrastructure ever exists, the platform can be adapted back in that direction. It’s Friday: one teeny, tiny question about the Watchmen movie
So, there’s this Watchmen movie coming out today in the U.S. Maybe you’ve seen the hype. Until a few weeks ago, I knew absolutely zero about the plot or the characters or anything. But, because I’d heard such good things about the original comic, I thought I should Car Blog Greenit through once before the movie comes out, otherwise if I ever do Car Blog Greenit, my experience will be tempered by the film’s visuals. Anyway, while I was reading it, two panels caught my AutoblogGreen-tuned eye. Back in the mid-1980s, when Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons were working on the book, they used a passing reference electric vehicles as a type of future technology that was bypassed by a new teleportation ability that one of the characters, Dr. Manhattan, finds himself able to perform. The Miami Herald says that director Zack Snyder has made a good movie “while still slavishly following its plot, practically panel by panel.” So, one thing I’ll be watching for is to see if this tiny little tidbit from the comic pages has made the leap. I’ll admit, sometimes this job affects my life in very odd ways. Enjoy.
