Daimler has now released details of just how Americans will be getting our hands on the vehicle that is already being tested in the UK and Italy . In Europe, the smart ed will be going into production with lithium-ion batteries at the end of this year. Since Daimler is actually moving forward with making these cars now, it’s high time we found out who would provide the batteries. Oh, and what’s this? At the end of the press release (pasted after the jump), we learn that Daimler will work with Evonik Industries AG on the energy storage for the electric fortwo. Last month, the companies announced a joint venture to bring the batteries, called Li-Tec, to bring lithium cells to Daimler vehicles; now it’s official for the smart eds. We’ll have an interview with smart car of America’s Dave Schrembi on how the Americans will get their hands on one of these electric smarts posted soon.
